The Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation ends their 2017 ranking year with a successful World Jiu-Jitsu Championship & General Assembly meeting.
The championship was held at the beautiful Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California USA on October 28th & 29th, 2017 with over 8,000 spectators, nearly 3,000 competitors from across the globe, and nearly $32,000 awarded in cash prizes.
For the first time the SJJIF introduced the Adapted Jiu-Jitsu divisions, organizing the World Special Jiu-Jitsu, the World ParaJiu-Jitsu, and the World Deaf Jiu-Jitsu Championships with the goal of creating a platform of inclusion for all athletes of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community.
Following the SJJIF World event, the biggest championship of our official calendar, the President of SJJIF, João Silva and members of the federation’s main board, gathered for the 2017 SJJIF Annual Conference & General Assembly. The two-day event was held at the Redac Gateway Hotel in Torrance, California to discuss the present and future betterment of the federation, its rules, and sport.
The meeting ended with high levels of determination and unity, a coming together of like-minded individual’s intent on protecting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, its unique history and lineage, and the future of the sport and its community.
