Last weekend, Japan played host to another edition of the Asian Open, and Keenan Cornelius stood out by winning heavyweight and absolute gold.
In the heavyweight division, he bested Renan Secco (Carlson Gracie) in the final. In the absolute, he got the title after refraining from fighting his fellow Atos representative Lucas Hulk, who had won the medium heavyweight title.
Kayron Gracie, a son of Carlos Gracie Jr., returned to competitive BJJ and subbed Nathan Medelsohn (Coalition 95) in the middleweight division’s final to take the gold.
Monique Carvalho (Checkmat) dominated her competition, beating both the medium heavyweight and the absolute divisions.
