Kharkov Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy “ZR Team Kharkov” was founded by local sportsmen Alexandr Yakovlev and Dmitriy Shterenberg in 2008. Later they were joined by Eugene Khomich.
These three sportsmen were so impressed by videos of the first UFC tournament and Royce Gracie’s victories that they decided to develop this martial art in Kharkov and all over Ukraine.
In 2008 their friend from Kyiv Vadim Puzanov (Vice-President of the Ukrainian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) said that owners of black belt Master Ze Radiola and his trainee Max Carvalho were invited to visit Kyiv. Thus, Ukrainians went to see Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu masters. After their workshops, it was decided to create UBJJF (Ukrainian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) with Max Carvalho as the main instructor.
In 2010 Stanislav Sukhorukov joined the club and now he is one of the leading trainers of this academy. Athletes from the “ZR Team Kharkov” training center participate in different competitions – local Kharkov championships, championships of Ukraine, Europe and other tournaments with different rules and of different types of martial arts: BJJ, Grappling, Pankration, Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, Kempo Submission and others. All coaches and athletes attend seminars, BJJ master’s qualification events and training camps.
Since 2008 Academy has trained a lot of champions, winners and active athletes. There are several “ZR Team” gyms in Kharkov for adults, children, boys and girls. “ZR Team Kharkov” is an official representative of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Kharkov, all coaches and athletes have special certificates confirming their level and allowing them to teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
